SEPTEMBER MEETING
Plan to join us on Thursday, September 19th at the Classic Golf Club at 11:30.  We will have SgtMaj Chase Getty, 1 / 7 as our guest of honor and speaker.

The 1/7 is currently training for their early 2014 deployment to Afghanistan.  So, we will look forward to hearing from him on what their mission will be.

Please make your luncheon reservation at 760 901-5494.

OCTOBER MEETING
For the first time in our Chapter history we will have a U. S. Congressman as our Speaker / Guest of Honor.  Dr. Luis Ruiz has confirmed his availability and will join us for the October 17th luncheon.  He will discuss what is going on with the Veterans Administration and what is going on to improve the quality of service.
He has spoken recently at a Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast and to the American Legion in Palm Springs. He did well at both events and showed a high level of interest in helping to improve communications and services for veterans.

PALM DESERT GOLF CART PARADE
Mark your calendar to join us for the 49th Annual Golf Cart Parade on Sunday, October 27th.   We will have a couple of golf carts in the parade to honor our WW II Marines while the rest of us walk to escort them along El Paseo.  The Palm Springs Pipe Band will provide us with bag pipers playing Marine marching music.  A  Marine Color Guard from the 1/7 will lead off the parade.  Nancy Sinatra will be the Grand Marshal this year. This will be the eighth year that we have participated in the parade.  We always gave a great time together.

A crowd of 15,000 - 20,000 spectators are expected to be along El Paseo to cheer us.  We will have some reserved seating available for spouses in a VIP section. Please contact Jim Sullivan to reserve one.  Cost $25 which includes a quality box lunch and beverages.

TAPS
We lost a Marine and a gentleman.  Member Richard Kussman passed away on August 5th.  Dick served on active duty 1953 - 1957  and then as a reservist until 1966.  He served with the 3rd Marine Wing as a Helicopter pilot.

Dick retired as Vice President, Western Region for AT&T.  He is survived by his wife Margie. A memorial service was held on August 30th in Palm Springs.  Family and friends gathered to celebrate Dick‘s life.  His grand daughter wrote her grand father a song and sang it as she played the guitar.

He was interned at the Riverside National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers his wife requested donations be made for the Wounded Warriors.

Bruno will discuss how we can use these flyers to recruit members.

MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY BALL
The 7th Marines Regiment will hold the Marine Corps 238th Birthday Ball  at Las Vegas at Bally’s Resort on Thursday, November 14th. This will be the second time that our Chapter has been invited to their Ball.  It will be an excellent celebration based upon our last experience.

This will be a formal evening with the Marines in their Dress Blues.  We should  wear dark suits and the ladies their formal attire. Tickets, which includes dinner, are $65 per person.  Chapter members will be seated together. To make your reservations please send a check payable to the Chapter by November 1st.  Hotel reservations should be made directly at Bally’s.  Mention that you are attending the Ball for preferred rates.

CELL PHONE ETIQUETTE
Although Dick Partee requests everyone to turn them off, there seems to be at least one member who doesn’t.  Incoming calls are disruptive.
Please either turn your cell phone off and let the voice mail do it’s job.

MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS
Chapter Friend, Dr. Joe Sanders has agreed to help redesign and upgrade our newsletter format.  Joe has business experience in owning a printing and graphic business.

This has been overdue and now with Sanders help we should have something to show you in the October issue.
