MENTORING WOUNDED WARRIORS
We have had 15 members step forward and offer to help mentor these Marines back into civilian life. We met in early April at the Wounded Warriors Hdq.  with LtCol Wong and then met a group of these Marines to more or less get acquainted. Since there are 46 Marines in the Detachment, we have reached out into the community for more volunteers and found significant interest. We plan to meet again on May 7th when we host them at the Monterey CC Barbecue.  We also have reached out to the community and found ten more volunteers willing to mentor the Marines.

MAILING LIST

At the April meeting Bob Shepard talked to us about the importance of growing our mailing list.  We will use the list to reach out to the community for their support of our various activities and events during the year.

Thank you to those members who have given us names to add to our mailing list.  We do need to hear from more of you, so please sent us 10 names at your earliest convenience. Thanks to Dick Kussman, Gene McClendon and Bob Shepard for submitting their lists of names.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
We need to constantly remind ourselves that we need to recruit new members.  If and when you meet Marine veterans invite them to a meeting. Have them check out our website.  We are one of the most active Chapters and Marines should want to become involved and share the camaraderie.  An application for membership can be printed off our website.  Or better yet, carry one with you in your car or at your home office.

LUNCHEON TO HONOR WOMEN MARINES
We hosted our third annual luncheon at the IW Club and had an entertaining time with Joey English as the Emcee.  SgtMajor Jennifer Simmons and her husband drove up from Camp Pendleton to be the Guest of Honor and Speaker.  She did well to inspire the women there and the young ladies from the JROTC.  Afterwards, I heard from several women guests that they wished they were younger so they could enlist into the Marine Corps.

Major General William Groeniger, USMC (Ret.),  LtCol Ted Wong, CO Wounded Warriors, SgtMaj Matthew Brookshire, 29 Palms Base and 23 Women Marines attended the luncheon.

Jim McCallum played the bag pipes. Rev Melanie Sanchez provided the Invocation and Benediction.  Mike Bales and Henry Sanchez were in charge of the raffle.  We thank Dick Partee, Carl Brooks and Buddy Sklar for sourcing the seven rounds of golf donated by  leading clubs and resorts in the valley.

Bill Zagone donated a beautiful miniature hand painted gold necklace, Wes Ahlgren a jar of Sand from Iwo Jima, and George Stettler  donated gold ear rings donated by De Luca Jewelry.  These gifts were sold at the silent auction.

Mike Walker, for the third year in  row,  arranged for the charter bus transportation to be donated by Morongo Valley School District which saved the Chapter over a $1,000.   Karen Sullivan arranged for the 28 gifts for the Marines. Thanks again to Carl Lewke for sending 4 young female cadets, sponsored by DHSHS.  The Marine Corps League also donated $500 to help with the costs of the women Marines.

All of these people and their individual efforts contributed to the success of the 2012 Women Marines Luncheon.  Thank you to everyone who supported the luncheon.

SEMPER FIDELIS,
