CHRISTMAS TOYS FOR THE FAMILIES AT 29 PALMS
Thanks again to all that helped make this another success. We collected over 900 unwrapped toys for the young families at 29 Palms.

We had excellent support from the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce whose members brought toy donations to their Christmas mixer at Agua Caliente.  The Marine Corps League,
Navy League, Windermere Realtors, La Quinta; Jensen’s Finest Foods, Palm Springs & Palm Desert; Indian Ridge Home Owners Association, Monterey Country Club and other groups also supported our toy collection effort.

The toys were delivered to the ASYMCA on December 20th just in time for distribution to the families at 29 Palms on December 21.

TOM MARTIN DONATION
George Stettler helped arrange a donation for $1,000 from Tom Martin.  Last month, Martin also donated $250 for our annual 7th Marines Warrior Appreciation Barbecue at 29 Palms.

NEW MEMBERS
Welcome aboard two new members:  Don Raiselis and Steve Brenenstall.  Don served 1956 - 1977 and retired as a Major.  Don and his wife Barbara live in Bermuda Dunes.

Steven Brenenstall has also joined the chapter.  Steve is a retired Master Sergeant who served with the 1st Tank Battalion.  He served 1973 - 1996.  He lives in Cathedral City with his wife Marjoree.

CHRISTMAS TURKEY DINNERS DELIVERED
On Monday, December 23rd we delivered a record 184 Christmas Turkey Dinners for the families of the units of the 7th Marines including 13 dinners for the families of the Wounded Warriors Detachment at 29 Palms.  We purchased the dinners from Jensen’s Finest Foods who prepared each dinner to feed 6 - 8 people.

Jensen’s refrigerated truck driven by Matt Zack transported the dinners, packed on pallets, to MCAGCC.  Marines were lined up there to handle to unloading.  There were a lot of smiling faces.

The Chapter also presented Col Bargeron and SgtMaj Samuels with one hundred $100 Gift Cards to be used at the Base Exchange.  Gift cards were divided among the four battalions to be handed to young enlisted Marine families. These cards  certainly helped out these families with the expense of Christmas.

MARINE JROTC CADETS
On December 20th we had Jensen’s Finest Foods deliver 53 fresh turkeys to Desert Hot Springs High School for cadets selected by LtCol Carl Lewke.  The turkeys were destined for their families Christmas Dinner. The donation was financed by an anonymous donor.

SALUTE TO OUR VOLUNTEERS
We have a cadre of Marines and Corpsmen who stepped forward in November and December to volunteer their help with our Christmas fund raiser at Jensen’s.  At our December Christmas Luncheon we recognized Bob Ferguson as the one who worked the most shifts.  We also should mention others who worked multiple shifts:  Bob Shepard, Bruno Takacs, Bill Ross, Buddy Sklar, Jack Rabinowitz, Richard Petkoff, George Stettler, Gene McClendon, Harry Ziegler, Jack Mennis, Jim Larsh, Jim Olson, Joe Sanders, Quint Villanueva and Dick Partee. There were others who worked one or two shifts who helped make the 2013 fund raiser a success.
