MCAGCC 29 PALMS TOUR
Recently the City of Palm Desert VIP’s including 3 city council members, toured the base and got a taste of what is going on there.  They visited the training simulators at Camp Wilson and had the opportunity to fire M-16’s on the rifle range.

The Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce and members will tour the base on March 5th.  We are expecting about 40 people for this tour.

Now, the Desert Cities MPMOH Chapter will have a tour the first week of May. Our visit will be a little different since we will observe a platoon assault from the 1/7 in a live fire exercise out at Camp Wilson.  More information coming as final details are worked out in the April newsletter.

TUN TAVERN TEAM DINNER REPORT
Members of the Tun Tavern Team gathered for food and grog at Mario’s, Palm Desert on February 11th.  The group was loud and insulted each other over a number of issues, however, found common ground over sharing plenty of laughs.  Only one member showed up in shorts, Bob Shepard.  He was fined $250 since they were short shorts and his fly was at half mast.
Someone whispered “Dead men don’t fall out of open windows.”

The group decided to hold these dinners on a quarterly basis.  The next dinner will be held at a different venue sometime in May.  (Mario’s didn’t invite the Tun Tavern Team back).  If you are interested in becoming a member you have to run the mile in less than 4 ½ minutes and do 50 pushups.  Or, simply write a check for $100 for the annual membership
and the physical requirements are waived.

NEW MEMBER
Please welcome aboard Vince Mast.  He served from 1971 - 1973 with the 1st Marine Division.  Vince and his wife, Shelley live in La Quinta.  Some of us met him at the February meeting.  He should become an active member.   Bruno Takacs recruited Mast for his second new member this year.

DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS / HOME DEPOT
DAV has partnered with Home Depot with the intent to repair / remodel  homes of needy veterans in this area.  According to Frank Gillette, Commander, of the Palm Springs Chapter of DAV, “this is intended to be a long term program without deadlines as long the need exists.  The challenge is locating veterans that can benefit from this program.”

If you know veterans that need some help, with repair or remodeling their home, contact Frank at (310) 918-9168.
