LETTER TO THE MEMBERS

Dear Member:

Serving as your President for the past two years has been a real pleasure and challenge.  I thank everyone for your supports since you helped make our accomplishments happen.  The Women Marines Luncheons;  barbecues for the Wounded Warriors & 7th Marines; Christmas turkey dinners and gift cards for Marine families and over 1000 Christmas toys for the Marine families at 29 Palms are the high lights of our efforts.

Thanks to Jim Sullivan, our officers and directors for their close support to keep our chapter in the forefront of the 1st Marine Division Association.

MARCH 20TH MEETING
There will be a change of command when George Stettler relieves Dick Partee as Chapter President.  Guest of Honor will be Brian Nestande, candidate for the Congressional Republican Nomination.  Brian will update us on his campaign.

We have yet to hear back from Congressman Raul Ruiz about coming to one of our meetings.  As you will recall, Ruiz cancelled out last October since he was sequestered in Washington D C the day of our meeting.
His Chief of Staff had indicated that they would be in contact with regard to setting up another date.

MARCH 21ST INFANTRY LEADERSHIP SCHOOL GRADUATION
Ceremony starts at 1000 which means we will be leaving early and will car pool for those who care to ride with us to Camp Pendleton.  Marilyn Paige will be the guest of honor and speaker at the ceremony.  We will see 30 of the finest Staff Sergeants graduate from this class.  The top graduate will receive the Mitchell Paige MOH Honor trophy.

After the graduation we will join them and the command across the street for lunch at the chow hall. If you are interested in going, let Dick Partee know.

APRIL 17TH MEETING
The guest of honor / speaker will be Dale Turner, L A County Chapter & Bodfish Chapters.  He is past president of both chapters and has held national office for the FMDA.  Dale is the mover and shaker of these chapters.   You will enjoy meeting him and listening to his remarks.

MAY MEETING
We have invited MajGen Berger, Commanding General, MCAGCC, 29 Palms as the guest of honor.  We are waiting for confirmation of his availability.

NEW OFFICERS ELECTED
George Stettler has been elected as Chapter President for the next two years.  Dick Partee will serve as Vice President for the next year.  Jim Sullivan will be the Secretary / Treasurer for two years.

Carl Brooks , Bob Shepard and Quint Villanueva were elected to a two year term on the board of directors.

THREE NEW MEMBERS ON BOARD
We are pleased to announce three new members have joined the chapter.

Henry Monahan, Palm Desert has joined the chapter. He was a Sergeant and served mostly with MAG-32.  Bruno Takacs recruited him.

Nicholas Walz also of Palm Desert has come aboard.  He served 1963 - 1967 as a Captain at MCAS, Yuma.  He was recruited by Quint Villanueva.

Russ Uthe, Palm Springs is a former corpsman. He served 1956 - 1958 with the 3rd Marine Division.

LUNCHEON RESERVATIONS
Our February meeting was a record turnout of members and guests.

However, we had a problem since a record number of members showed up without reservations.  We had to set up another table and crowd more in to other tables so we could accommodate everyone. This was a real cluster and hurt our creditability. This also delayed the start of the meeting 10 minutes.

The servers were overloaded. They scheduled two to work our luncheon and needed three.  The kitchen was behind in meal preparation and the being short on servers the lunches were served late.

The bottom line is that we need our members to be better organized and be sure to make your reservation before the luncheon.  Our board has decided that those that don’t have a reservation, lunch will cost them $25.  It was also decided that for those that make a reservation that if they don’t show up that they will be billed for lunch.  We will have to do this since the no shows are also a problem since we have to provide a head count beforehand and guarantee a minimum.

Sergeant at Arms, Bruno Takacs handles the reservations and is the point of contact.  His e-mail address:  bvi47@yahoo.com  or by telephone at (760) 901-5494.  Please make a reservation for our monthly luncheons.

ARMED SERVICES YMCA THANKS THE CHAPTER

Dear Mr. Partee:
It is with the utmost gratitude and greatest pleasure to inform that the ASY 2013 Holiday Toy Program was once again a hug success.

Your generous donation of wonderful toys not only brought smiles but also holiday cheer to the active duty Marines, Sailor and their families who had participated.

The continuous support and dedication that we have received from our donors has been significant in helping the ASY to successfully distribute toys to a total of 289 families and 620 children during the event which took place on 21 December 2013.

On behalf of the ASYMCA and those we serve aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for your generosity, effort and time invested this event possible.

Sincerely,

Anita Neu-Fultz,
Executive Director
