I  was in a conversation recently, with a 91 year old wife of a retired Marine Colonel.  At the end, she said “you can always tell a Marine but you can’t tell them much!”  I took it as a compliment.  Unknown source.

APRIL 21ST LUNCHEON TO HONOR WOMEN MARINES
Major Heather Cotois,   USMC will be the guest of honor and speaker at the fourth annual luncheon.  She works on MajGen Bailey’s staff at 1st Marine Division Headquarters, Camp Pendleton. Ms Brooke Beare, KPSP Channel 2 Co Anchor Evening News will be the Emcee.  Both of these impressive ladies should help us attract a large turnout. We also will have a  bus load of women Marines that will be our  guests from 29 Palms.  This luncheon will be held at the I W Club, Indian Wells.  Invitations to be mailed by mid March.

Please let us know if you have anyone that you would like for us to send an invitation to.  This is a very nice affair.  We expect the Marine Band from Camp Pendleton to join us.

We need our members to support this luncheon.  If you cannot participate, please make a donation to help cover the tickets for our guests.

Harry Covert has agreed to chair the silent auction.  We need for everyone to pitch in with the prizes which can be rounds of golf, art, jewelry, gift certificates of at least $150.  We would also like some raffle items for the women Marines such as spa, hair salon gift certificates worth at least $50.  Talk to Harry and let him know what you can contribute to help (760) 324-1197.

Bob Belz, Bob Shepard and Carl Brooks have already lined up donations of rounds of golf at three different country clubs within a day of the last meeting.

MARILYN PAIGE
Marilyn Paige had brain surgery last month  to remove a blood clot. After several weeks at Eisenhower Medical Center she has returned home and is convalescing,  She looks great and has that charming smile.  We look forward to seeing Marilyn back in action in March.

1st MARINE DIVISION 73RD ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Held at Camp Pendleton the end of January.  This annual event attracted veteran Marines from the 1st Marine Division Association and active Marines from around the country.  The anniversary included a bus trip to MCRD for a graduation ceremony, visits to the various units at Camp Pendleton, an impressive Battle Colors Rededication Ceremony and the Banquet Dinner. Harry & Nancy Covert, Joe and Barbara Daily, David Franklin, Dick and Susan Partee, Bob Shepard, Jim Sullivan and Q            uint and Yolanda Villanueva represented the Chapter at the Anniversary Banquet. There was a drawing for a M-1 Garand and other prizes.  George Stettler won 3rd prize - a $100 Visa card.

It is always a wonderful experience to meet some new friends at this event.  The world famous BODFISH CHAPTER had their traditional hospitality room at the Rhodeway Inn and lured a few of us into a den of adult beverages. Great place to meet old friends and some of the most interesting and thirsty characters in the 1stMarDivAssn.
