MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT GEORGE STETTLER
“Today, March 20, 2015, was a big day for me, my first meeting as President of the Desert Cities Mitchell Piage MOH Chapter of the 1st Marine Division Association.  I’ve always felt it was an honor to be a member of this chapter and share our love and respect for the Corps.  It is my goal to assist the Chapter in maintaining the outstanding reputation we have in the local community, the 7th Marine Regiment, MCAGCC at 29 Palms and the 1st Marine Division National Association.

I have been impressed with the professional manner that our Chapter conducted its business and the number of members that step up and volunteer for our special projects.  The Chapter needs the support of all members; please continue to answer the call when asked to volunteer your service.  I would like to extend my thanks to Past President Dick Partee and the Board of Directors Jim Sullivan, Carl Brooks, Bruno Takacs, Bob Shepard, Mike Walker and Quint Villanueva for their leadership.  It will be a pleasure to work with these Marines.”

COL AUSTIN (SPARKY) RENFORTH, USMC
Sparky has been nominated for  Brigadier General.  We knew him from commanding the 7th Marines before moving on to the USMC War College last October.  Confirmation from the U. S. Senate is expected by June.

JIM McCULLUM PASSED AWAY
Jim played the bag pipes at a number of our Chapter events over the past 7 years. Before his retirement, he was Vice President of the St. Louis Rams.

Although Jim was not a Marine, he did serve with the Army Reserves.  In St. Louis he developed a relationship with a local Marine Corps Reserve unit and soon learned to play Marine marching songs including the Marines’ Hymn.

Jim played at Chapter events and became active in other Marine group activities.  He joined the Palm Springs Pipe Band.  He brought the Pipe Band to us when he heard the Marine Corps Band had cancelled the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade.  Jim also volunteered to help with the Wounded Warriors Mentor program.

A memorial service was held for Jim at the Monterey Country Club.  Friends, neighbors, the PS Pipe Band, Iron Horse Marines and a few of us from the Chapter paid our respects.  His son and daughter flew in and were there to meet everyone.  We will miss Jim!

QU0TE FROM THE COMMANDANT  - General James Amos
“A Marine is a Marine. I set that policy - there is no such thing as a former Marine.  You’re a Marine, just in a different uniform and you’re in a different phase of your life.

But, you will always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico.  There is no such thing as a former Marine.”

MAY 15TH MEETING
We are planning to  honor the widows of members of our chapter at this luncheon.  Although the CG will be unable to join us, someone from the MCAGCC Command will represent them at this luncheon.   Wives are invited to this luncheon.

JULY 17TH MEETING
Brian Nestande’s staff has rescheduled for him to be the guest of honor / speaker at the July luncheon.  Nestande is the Republican candidate for nomination in the 36th Congressional District.

For those of you that are supporting the Demoncratic candidate, Raul Ruiz, his staff has not rescheduled his appearance so far.
As you may recall, Ruiz cancelled out at our October meeting due to being sequestered in Washington DC.
