CHAPTER MISSION STATEMENT
This will remind those that may have forgotten our mission.

APRIL 18TH MEETING
Major Ross Schellhass, Commanding Officer, Infantry Unit Leadership School, Camp Pendleton will join us as our guest of honor. Please make your reservation.  We need to know how many members will attend to accommodate the Classic Club’s chef.

We still have members walk in at the last minute, without a reservation, which causes last minute confusion by the restaurant staff.  The March meeting did cause some crowding at the tables.  So, please make your reservation.  If plans should change, please cancel since we have already had to guarantee our attendance.

APRIL 20 LUNCHEON TO HONOR WOMEN MARINES
This will be the 4th Annual Luncheon at the I W Club.  We are bringing women Marines by bus from 29 Palms to be our guests for the luncheon.  Major Heather J. Cotoia, Assistant Chief of Staff, G-1, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton will be the guest of honor and speaker.

Brooke Beare, Co Anchor Channel 2 Evening News will Emcee  the luncheon. Rev. Melanie Sanchez will handle the invocation and benedication.  Marilyn Paige will provide the explanation of the
Fallen Warrior Table.

Reminder that we need our members to support this event. We have committed to a bus load of young enlisted women Marines from units at 29 Palms as our guests.  If you are attending, please buy an extra ticket for a Marine.  If you cannot attend, we ask that you make a donation to help with the costs of the Marines.

Chapter members have been asked to donate raffle prizes and items for the Silent Auction.  Gift certificates for restaurants for a minimum value of fifty dollars are in need.

MAY 16TH MEETING
The speaker will be Rich (Da Coach) Gilgallon, Radio Host from KPSI 920 AM.  Gilgallon recently invited Col Mike Walker to be his guest and the two of them did a great job.  He is a real patriot and stirs the American spirit.  Listen to him Monday through Friday from 1600 - 1800.

NEW MEMBERS ANNOUNCED
Please welcome Joe Fahey and Jerome Karrels aboard.

Both men have attended two meetings this year.  Fahey served 1965 -1972 as Corpsmen with the 1/7.  He lives in Palm Desert.  Karrels lives in Palm Desert with his wife Shirley and served in the Marines 1966 - 1968 with the 9th Communications Battalion, 29 Palms.

INFANTRY LEADERSHIP SCHOOL, CAMP PENDLETON
Marilyn Paige was their honored guest and speaker at their March 22nd Graduation Ceremony.  Dick Partee, Bruno Takacs and Jim Olson also attended the ceremony to represent the chapter.  The top SNCO graduating was presented with the COL MITCHELL PAIGE TROPHY.

The Commanding Officer, Major Ross Schellhass, USMC, will be our speaker at the April 18th meeting.

WORLD WAR II MARINES
The Executive Board approved a new policy where Marines and Corpsmen who served in WW II will no longer be required to pay membership dues in our Chapter.

JENSEN’S FINEST FOODS EASTER FUND RAISER
Matt Zack has invited the Chapter set up our flags and tables over Good Friday and Saturday to take advantage of the peak traffic the Palm Desert and Palm Springs stores will have as the season winds down.  We will collect donations for the Marines and families of the Wounded Warriors Detachment at 29 Palms.

Please should show your appreciation by favoring Jensen’s stores for our Easter holiday shopping.  Reminder, they are stocking JARHEAD RED wine for Marines in the Coachella Valley.

MAGAZINES
Reminder, please donate your magazines to Frank Gillette who tirelessly distributes them to veteran clinics and hospitals.  No one realizes how important these magazines are to these veterans.  “Doc” Gillette has done an excellent job and doesn’t get enough  recognition for the time and effort he puts into this.  Call him if you would like to make a donation (310) 918-9168 or bring them to the April 18th meeting in a box or bag.

DIRECTORS ELECTED
Bruce “Bruno” Takacs and Col Mike Walker were elected to the Executive Board.  Carl Brooks was re elected to another term.
Thank you for voting and returning your ballots in a timely manner.

LIVING HISTORY DAY AT NOLI INDIAN SCHOOL
The school has invited us back for their second annual Living History Day.  We have offered our veteran Marines to go to their school on May 17th participate in this event.  Les Carlisle will do a presentation on his experiences of the Iwo Jima invasion during WW II.  Quint Villanueva will present his at Korea.  Henry Sanchez will do Viet Nam and Col Mike Walker the Gulf War.

The school is very patriotic and dedicate May 17th for this event.  They will honor these Marines with a ceremony and luncheon.
